ABOUT ME

Eugene Smith is an illustrator born and raised in California now residing in Chicago, IL.

He decided all that time spent doodling in notebooks and scribbling on walls should be put to good use and so he pursued a BFA in painting and drawing from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

His work has appeared in books, editorials, tarot card decks, and educational graphic novels. He lives with his lovely wife, two children, and an odd dog.

TESTIMONIALS

Jason Rekulak, former publisher at Quirk Books, Author of The Impossible Fortress.

"Eugene Smith is one of my very favorite illustrators, and I've worked with a ton.  He has illustrated 8 or 9 books for my company (including several award winners & at least one New York Times bestseller).  His illustrations are always packed with imaginative and rewarding details.  He brings a million creative ideas to every assignment.  He makes terrific use of light and shadow.  he never cuts corners.  And he has never, ever missed a deadline.  We just hired him for a new project and I can't wait to hire him again."

Jeremy Bustos, Owner at We Create Media

"Eugene helped us out with some of our largest clients.  Despite tight deadlines he was always on time with deliverables and the quality of work was always better than what we asked for.  I searched for a long time for an illustrator of his caliber that could take direction and was reliable.  he took our work to the next level and really impressed our clients.  I would strongly recommend him for any illustration project."

Joe Sikoryak, Creative Director for Arts & Entertainment at Intrada Records.

"Eugene's clean modern style jumped off the page when I was looking for an illustrator and he delivered what his samples promised, and more.  Our collaboration was great, from the sturdiness of his sketches to the variety of ideas in his variations.  And the finished piece arrived on time and even a little better than I hoped.  Looking forward to working with him again!"

Jennifer Lum, Senior Art Buyer at Learning A to Z

"Eugene hits all the marks of a great artist; creative and skilled at his craft, professional, and punctual.  The nonfiction comic book he illustrated was not only high quality, but the entire process was an excellent collaborative experience.  he asked questions to make sure he understood what we wanted, did some of his own historical research, and was receptive to our feedback.  This book was very dialogue driven, but Eugene's grasp of composition and flow helped make it an attractive, compelling read.  A+ experience working with Eugene - I'd be happy to hire him again and would absolutely recommend him to others."
